WBCSD report

Brand implementation

Having collaborated with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) on three influencial reports previously, they rebranded just before the “Net-zero operational carbon buildings: State of the Art” report.

As a membership-based council, one of their key activities is publishing thought leadership pieces that push the industry forward, in collaboration with member organisations. Building on our working relationship, I applied the rebrand for the first time across layout, charts and diagrams.

These projects require close collaboration as most of the graphics are drafted before the body of the report, without the context of the page. Here is an example of one of three lifecycle tables that I turned into sundial graphics.

Some draft graphics were overloaded with content, and I worked closely with the team to make these more succinct. To make good use of time, it's important to bear the page in mind.

Two weeks prior to delivery, the team reached the 80% content mark, and I was able to work on the layout more definitively in InDesign. We shifted feedback from Word to annotated PDFs, which made the final stages much smoother. When the project completed, the client liked how the brand had been implemented, and asked to use this design as their primary template for reports.

WBCSD's social media team handled the launch, and although I do not have access to metrics, the report was debated extensively at COP28, and has since been referred to as a great piece of thought leadership and influential within the industry.
